Ulipristal acetate is a selective progesterone receptor modulator that prevents or suspends ovulation by binding to the progesterone receptor, affecting endometrium and implantation. 30-mg of oral tablet as a single-dose is recommended taken after unprotected intercourse as soon as possible (and within 120 hours).
Application of Ulipristal Acetate
Emergency Contraception: Used as an emergency contraceptive pill to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or failure of a contraceptive method. It is effective if taken within 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected intercourse.
Uterine Fibroids Treatment: Utilized in the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of uterine fibroids (benign tumors of the uterus) in adult women of reproductive age. It helps in controlling symptoms like heavy menstrual bleeding.
Preoperative Treatment of Uterine Fibroids: Sometimes used as a preoperative treatment to reduce the size of uterine fibroids before surgical removal.
Menstrual Cycle Regulation: Can be used to control the timing of menstruation by delaying the onset of the menstrual period.
